Hear the north shore’s whole box and dice on SOAB’s debut self titled EP, bringing punk reflection to the Dee Why area.
From the short and sharp 2 minutes of opening track ‘Doogan Flute’, it is not hard to guess where the sound of Shaun Oakley and the Boys is gonna head. Its straight up, no-mixer hard punk with a baffling precision for such a fresh band. The tight 5 piece pull no punches in their scathing second track ‘Fuck the Ivanhoe’, assailing the wanks-about-town that have pissed us all off one night or another.
Coming back strong with an ode to the brand of rum, the third track ‘Mount Gay’ is a mean yellfest that paints odd lyrics with a familiar guitar chord progression that echoes a lot of popular 90s and early 00s punk staples. In keeping with the larrikin antics the band are known for, the entire following track is dedicated to an acquaintance of the band and his love for the taste of Winfield Blues. ‘Winnie Blues’ is a dancey, fast paced and unmistakably ozpunk piece, even with a callback chorus chucked in. Finally, and clocking in the EP at a snappy ~10 minutes, is Danger Can, a track the band featured a live take of on their first major video featured below.
