Filthy is the word of the week for this hard hitting bunch of Wollongong space punks
Opening on the unhinged ramblings of frontman Vaughan McCreanor over royal fuzz tones of bass madness, this EP is a sure fire hit for any fans of old hardcore and punk vibes. After ‘Big Fudge Sunday’ wraps up the repeated space snakes in my brain, second track ‘Shoegazi’ follows. Released earlier by the band as a standalone track, the tracks phasey chord work is a standout, subtle vocals and easy transitions make it one of the most straightforward show-your-mum numbers on there.
Jumping right back into the realm of the heinous, ‘Filthy Stomp’ follows in with a riffy tune taking aim at skate park posers and the usual run-of-the-mill wank that floats in and out of most street scenes.
‘Filthy Stomp’ also marks the Space Boys first foray into music video, which you can find below. The lads aggression escalates into ‘Cuckhold Creek’ that could pass as a forgotten Black Flag track with its beating quick tempo and classic hardcore vocal style. Closing on the track ‘Cosmic Lovin’ lends a surprising addition of synthesiser to the EP, with a bit more complexity than the rest, suggesting Space Boys definitely have more in store.
